Key Features and Benefits

1. Powerful 8-Inch Subwoofer Design

The Horizon HZ-8 combines a compact 8-inch diameter with a heavy-duty motor and suspension system.

Its smaller size makes it an excellent choice for vehicles where installation space is limited, including:

• Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks

• Ford F-150 and Super Duty trucks

• Dodge Ram pickups

• Toyota Tacoma and Tundra

• SUVs and crossovers

• Sedans and hatchbacks

Vehicle-specific enclosures and sufficient mounting clearance are required.

2. High-Performance Dual 4-Ohm Voice Coils

The HZ-8 features dual 4-ohm voice coils for flexible amplifier wiring.

A single subwoofer can be wired to:

• 2 ohms with the coils connected in parallel

• 8 ohms with the coils connected in series

This flexibility makes the HZ-8 suitable for a variety of aftermarket monoblock amplifiers.

Always verify the amplifier's minimum supported impedance before wiring.

3. High-Temperature 2-Inch Copper Voice Coil

The HZ-8 uses a 2-inch, four-layer, high-temperature copper voice coil.

The voice coil is engineered to handle demanding bass reproduction while working with the motor's cooling system to manage heat.

This construction supports reliable performance when the subwoofer is installed and powered correctly.

4. 14mm Xmax for Powerful Cone Movement

The Sundown Audio Horizon HZ-8 features 14mm of rated Xmax.

Xmax describes the subwoofer's linear excursion capability, which is an important factor in low-frequency performance.

The HZ-8's high-roll surround and progressive suspension help the cone move smoothly and remain controlled during demanding bass passages.

5. Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum Basket

Unlike many basic stamped-steel subwoofer frames, the Horizon HZ-8 features a rigid cast aluminum basket.

Benefits include:

• Strong structural support

• Stable motor and suspension alignment

• Durable construction

• Reduced unwanted frame flex

• Professional high-performance appearance

6. Advanced Motor Cooling

Sundown Audio equips the HZ-8 with a vented motor gap and pole piece to support heat dissipation.

Efficient cooling is important during extended listening sessions, particularly when playing bass-heavy music at elevated volume levels.

7. High-Roll Surround and Progressive Spider

The HZ-8 features a high-roll surround and progressive spider suspension.

This combination is designed to support controlled cone movement and smooth excursion.

It helps the subwoofer reproduce strong bass while maintaining the mechanical control needed for daily listening.

8. Reinforced Tinsel Leads and Bolted Spider Pack

The HZ-8 incorporates stitched Mini-XL tinsel leads and a bolted spider pack.

These construction features are designed to support durability and reliable operation under repeated cone movement.

9. Excellent for Ported Subwoofer Enclosures

Sundown Audio recommends a ported enclosure for maximum efficiency and output.

A properly designed ported box can reinforce bass output around its tuning frequency, allowing this compact 8-inch subwoofer to deliver impressive low-frequency impact.

Manufacturer-recommended ported enclosure specifications include:

• Net internal volume: 0.65 cubic feet

• Port tuning: 35 Hz

• Recommended port area: 9 square inches

For customers who prefer a sealed enclosure, the HZ-8 can also be installed in a properly designed sealed box.

10. Great for Custom Truck Bass Systems

The Sundown Horizon HZ-8 is a strong choice for custom under-seat and behind-seat truck audio installations where available space allows.

It can be paired with:

• Single 8-inch subwoofer boxes

• Dual 8-inch truck enclosures

• Custom center-console enclosures

• Vehicle-specific ported boxes

• Custom sealed subwoofer enclosures

Always verify the box's internal volume, cutout diameter, mounting depth, and recommended tuning before installation.

What Amplifier Should You Use With the HZ-8?

Choose a quality monoblock amplifier that supports the final impedance of your voice coil wiring.

For a single dual 4-ohm HZ-8, the most common wiring option is 2 ohms.

Select amplifier output based on the confirmed RMS rating of your exact subwoofer and adjust the gain and crossover settings correctly.

Avoid amplifier clipping, excessive bass boost, and improper enclosure tuning.

Why Choose the Sundown Audio Horizon HZ-8?

The HZ-8 is designed for customers who want more than a basic entry-level 8-inch subwoofer.

Its cast aluminum basket, 2-inch high-temperature copper voice coil, vented motor, high-roll surround, and 14mm Xmax distinguish it from many conventional compact subwoofers.

It is an excellent option for a properly engineered car audio system where bass performance and installation space both matter.
